Welcome to the Tardis project. Small on the outside big on the inside. Just like our minds and imagination.
What good is imagination if you do not use it?
The Common Good Awareness Project is about creating awareness of Scotland’s Common Good Fund, which consists of a pile of assets that are publicly owned but - through a lack of public awareness - are being forgotten about and their use being misappropriated or stolen. We work to help identify, document and restore these assets for the use of the public who own them.
We are also interested in spreading information on the technological commons of Open Source computer technology and of how folk can gain access to it.
Access is very high in our remit. Access to information, to learning, to good food, to self determination, to collaboration, to innovation, to democracy, to agency and to engagement in public life.
Our aims are very simple. We want to engage with, collaborate with, help, support in any way we can others who respect these principals of the common good and who’s efforts are towards working in and supporting grass roots communities.
The project came about when we looked for a theme that would be both recognisable and able to connect a variety of people through ideas and workshopsl.
We picked the Tardis, for various reasons. We liked the idea that the main protagonist of the Doctor is a defender of the weak and time travels around the place - not with a big gun - but with a screw driver helping people to fix things.
The concept of the program was "specifically an education program aimed at teaching kids about science and history. We were trying to educate kids about certain things about the human condition"

Help folk to learn the use of technology to help understand and access agency and a democratic voice.
Encourage useful practical skills in the building of the Tardis that are transferable to many aspects of our day to day life.
Discover simple electronics and about Open Source Software.
Help to find pleasure in thought and meditation through the study of our environment, history, culture, architecture, walking, talking, who we are and where we are.
Interview research and video people to see what they are thinking about and how we can share ideas and create community solidarity around some overarching aims or ideas.
Creating space to allow folk to bring and add things to the mix.
The only requirement is some imagination the desire to help learn or teach.
Find something you might be interested from what you find here, or invent something new that you need help or support with.
We will eventually have organised programs and workshops if that is what you need. But if you have the inclanation to design or run one that would be good to.
But whatever your interests we can find a place for them and are always happy to chat to folk about what they would like to do.
Winter Preparation and program
Throughout the winter we will be planning and organising meetings talks and events. Talking to folk about how they can help to volunteer and collaborate.
Autumn and Summer program
Hopefully by the new year we will have our community rickshaw on the go as mobile workshop. And a plethora of exciting ideas in a whole range of subjects and activities to get us out and about and towards the summer.
From now till then we will set up social media and start putting a program together and add stuff as it happens.
So we are keen to get folk involved on the ground floor, as the whole idea is to energise people to become engaged in community and public life and to take ownership of what is happening and what they themselves can make happen around them.Teaching and learning
Volunteer your skills and learn new ones. The student in one class/workshop can be the teacher in another.
Coordinate or collaborate in a project/workshop around your group, or groups interests.
Become a Participatory Action Researcher. Documenting filming, recording, interviewing and finding things out that will increase understanding and to help spawn ideas to change and improve things.
Volunteer some time to the Tardis time bank for future intergalactic time travel. (A longer term project)
If you wish to collaborate, teach, or learn, get in touch.
We support the concept of the commons meaning:
* Identifying and protecting Common Good Fund assets. LINK
* Reinstating the community institutions that were once supported for and by the common good.
* Recognising the commons as a foundation for understanding and reclaiming agency. (Community empowerment) and building solidarity.
* Helping and supporting others by offering information and guidance to further learning, research and activity, by highlighting the many benefits of taking part for yourself and your community.
The aims of our present project The Tardis, is towards engagement in community and public life by enjoyable activities
Part of this work will be achieved by hosting workshops on a variety of diverse topics:
You can find a list of topics below. But more importantly we would like to support existing community efforts towards social change, access and inclusion.
We welcome your ideas suggestions, comments, or requests. If there is anything you need explained, just ask the question.
To explore what people may be interested in or to pique their imagination
These are the themes we will look to develop
WHAT WE ALL HAVE TO OFFER
We each have at least a few ideas. Sometimes we need to share them to realise them. Whatever they are, within reason of course, bring them to the pot we can find a place for most things.
OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGY
We will be using free software as in freedom, learning the benefits of open source technology, how to save money using it and how to stop helping to create technology billionaires.
If you are interested in social media, graphics and all the paraphernalia that goes with it. We need your help to get the word out, keep people informed and make nice art and images.
How do we engage local people in planning and in building knowledge of housing, architecture, the environment and measuring the benefit and impacts of social and commercial projects in our communities.
FILMING AND RECORDING
Interested in being part of the Tardis film crew. We will be filming and photographing all sorts of thing over the course of the project. From workshops to discussions, architecture and information videos.
PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH
We will be collecting data, stories and research as we progress. What we discover and how collected data could help to develop future projects and to share with others who may find the information useful.
COOPS (Community ownership of profits)
At the end of the day we all need to work. There is no reason work can not be fulfilling. Particularly without a boss on our backs sucking up all of the profits. Our projects will be a way to look at cooperative thinking about work.
Some of what we hope to achieve
The idea is the thing
The Tardis Project, is a shell in which to put things in and get folk interested in a whole variety of activities.
Our main goals in the work we do are.
Access. How to get folk involved with stuff they think has nothing to do with them.
Use any means within our grasp and abilities to do this.
Create solidarity and collaborations with others on things we can agree upon and who are planning and working towards radical change (in our communities first.)
Make the work exciting, challenging, understandable to the participants but meaningful and forward thinking.
Funding. We have some Awards For All funding which need to stretch across the year for workshops and materials.
Our work process may seem a bit confusing to people at first but we don't really work in what you could call a normal linear fashion. We work to change the meaning of normal to something better.
